TO THE EDITOR:
I would like to take a moment to remind the Citizens of Artesia about the laws for animals. Over the past couple of months, we are seeing a high level of animals being picked up and transported to the shelter. When this occurs, it creates an exuberant amount of stress on the resources for the city as well as the animals involved.
Some of the ways this can be combated is by doing a couple of things. First, please inspect the area for your animal. Insure there are no holes and all gates are closed. Second, keep fresh water, food, and shelter from the weather in that area. Third, if your animal is not microchipped please do so. Your local Animal Shelter or Veterinarian can provide this service for you. If you do not have a fence please insure your animal is secured on your property by a tether or a chain of proper weight and length. Finally, if your animal gets out, please contact the animal shelter as soon as possible so they can check the shelter or assist in looking for the animal.
All these items are actually required under City of Artesia Ordinances. If you wish to read these ordinances you can fi nd them at http://www.artesianm.gov. In the main body of the page you will fi nd a link for City of Artesia Code. From there the ordinances can be found in title 5, chapter 2. You can also contact the Animal Shelter at 746-5041 if you wish to speak to someone.
