With minimal turnout due to the fact all three candidates were running unopposed, Artesia’s School Board Election Tuesday saw the reelection of two members and the new election of one.

Luis J. Florez will join the Artesia Public Schools Board of Education representing District 2. Florez was the lone candidate applying to fill the seat vacated by Margaret Aguilar.

Reelected to the District 1 seat was David Conklin, and Lowell Irby won reelection to the seat in District 4.

A total of 25 combined votes were cast, 20 in-person and five absentee.

“We’re really excited about this group of people and happy to get to work for the kids,” said APS Superintendent Dr. Crit Caton.
