The NMSP responded around 7 p.m. Sunday to the scene of a single-vehicle wreck on SR 18, mile marker 20, in Lea County. Initial investigation indicated the vehicle, which was traveling southbound on SR 18, failed to navigate a curve in the roadway, entered the median, crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic, and rolled.

The driver, identified as Lynn Wilbur Stehley, 44, of Jal, and his passenger, Jesse David-Allan Ables, 32, of Kermit, Texas, were both unrestrained and were ejected from the vehicle.

Stehley was transported by EMS to Odessa, Texas, for medical treatment. Ables sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
