A rosary and mass are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Stephen “George” Aguilar of Artesia.
Aguilar, 64, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at Artesia General Hospital.
Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricardo Aguilar, Gucci Lopez, Luciahno Lopez, Roman Aguilar, Andy Huertaz and Ryan Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are all of his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.
George was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Artesia, the son of Frank and Reynalda (Flores) Aguilar. He was a lifelong resident of Artesia.
On June 24, 1980, he married Carol De La Rosa in Lovington.
He was a foreman at Navajo Refining Co. for 30 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, a diehard Dallas Cowboys and Bob Marley fan, and loved his loud reggae music, babysitting his only granddaughter, Denasia, watching his favorite old western movies, and working on his 1970 Mustang.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the family home; mother Reynalda Aguilar of Artesia; sons Jacob Aguilar and Jarred Aguilar, both of Artesia; daughter Jennifer Florez of Artesia; brothers Isaac Aguilar and wife Alice of Los Lunas, Frank Aguilar and wife Josie of Artesia, and Tommy Aguilar and wife Carmen of Houston, Texas; sisters Louise Baldonado and husband Mike, and Geneva Huertaz and husband Jim Lopez, both of Los Lunas; granddaughter Denasia Aguilar; in-laws Carmen Hinojos and husband Domingo of Hobbs, and Terry Lopez and husband Mario, and Tina Huerta and husband Nat, all of Artesia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and in-laws Andy and Julia De La Rosa.
