Janet Hall, 63, of Artesia, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at her home following a long battle with a neurological disease.

Janet was born Janet Cothern in Las Cruces to Wilford Cothern and Melodese Thomas. She grew up on her father’s farm and ranch with a love for all animals, but mostly horses.

As a teen, Janet was crowned Miss Rodeo Dona Ana and competed in the Miss Rodeo New Mexico Pageant.

On April 29, 1977, she married Bob Hall, and the couple moved to Artesia, where they raised their two children, Chad and Crystal Hall.

Janet began barrel racing again and won many buckles and saddles in the rodeo arena. She rodeoed until she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease in 2007.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Hall; daughter Crystal Baca and husband Dan; grandson Caden Baca; brothers Howard Cothern and wife Dora, and Steve Cothern and wife Tracy; sisters Sandra Slater and husband Bob, and Carolyn Salas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford Cothern and Melodese Thomas; and son Chad Hall.

Services will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Las Cruces.
