A Roswell man is dead after the car in which he and a female passenger were traveling collided with a tree Monday evening in Roswell.

The 2007 Ford four-door struck a tree in the 2100 block of North Main Street late Monday night, and both the driver, Robert Richardson IV, 23, and his passenger, Monica Medina, 34, suffered injuries that required they be flown to a Texas hospital for treatment.

Richardson died Tuesday morning as a result of his injuries. Medina remains hospitalized and is expected to recover.

Richardson was pinned in the wreckage of the car and was extricated from the vehicle by the Roswell Fire Department. Leading up to the crash, the car was headed south, and initial investigation by the Roswell Police Department reveals it was likely traveling at a high rate of speed before it left the roadway and struck the tree. Other details of the crash remain under investigation.
