11-6-opxmaschildFaith Baptist Church will serve as the local collection site this year for Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation Christmas Child project, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind.

During National Collection Week Nov. 14-21, Artesia residents will be able to donate shoeboxes filled with school supplies, hygiene items, notes of encouragement, and fun toys to deliver to children in need around the world. This year, Artesia and surrounding cities hope to contribute more than 6,400 shoebox gifts toward the 2016 global goal of reaching 12 million children. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.

“The shoebox gifts donated by Artesia volunteers at this drop-off location will shine a light of hope to children living in poverty overseas,” said Paul Fischbach, Southwest Regional Director for Operation Christmas Child. “Anyone is welcome to pack a shoebox and help a child facing difficult circumstances to feel loved and not forgotten.”

Boxes may be dropped off from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Nov. 14-20; 5-7:30 p.m. Nov. 16; and 7-9 a.m. Nov. 21 at the church, 401 S. 20th St. For more information, call the church at 746-3488.
