Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Emilia Ruiz Phillips of Carlsbad.

Phillips, 63, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services, with cremation to follow. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace.

Emilia was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Artesia, to Victorio and Teresa (Contreras) Ruiz. She was a longtime Artesia resident before moving to Carlsbad in 1973.

On Sept. 19, 2008, she married Tom Phillips in Carlsbad.

Emilia was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Phillips, of the family home; daughters Veronica Lopez and husband John, Lenore Palomino, and Susie Alva, all of Carlsbad; sisters Lupe Chacon and Gloria Ruiz, both of Artesia, and Marta Beltran of Roswell; brother Freddie Ruiz of Albuquerque; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Joey Palomino; brother Alfredo Ruiz; and two sisters.
