TO THE EDITOR:

Citizens of Artesia (Bulldog Nation),

My name is Michael “Mikey” Chavarria. I was born and raised in the GREAT City of Artesia. I am very proud to say that I was a part and was able to participate in the great sports traditions of Artesia and the programs that are supported greatly by the citizens of Artesia.

After graduating high school, I was grateful that I was given the opportunity to come back home and start my law enforcement career in Artesia (Eddy County) with the Artesia Police Department. After about four years, I then moved on to the sheriff’s office, where I have been for the past 18 years.

I am now a lieutenant with the sheriff’s office and serve currently under Chief Mark Cage. Mark is running for sheriff, and I would like to let the citizens of Artesia know that I am fully supporting Mark Cage in his bid for Eddy County sheriff.

Mark has served as undersheriff for the past three-and-a-half years and, in my opinion, has done an excellent job of fulfilling his duties not only to his department but to the citizens of Eddy County. Currently, Mark holds several positions within the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force and the Regional Task Force Boards. Chief Cage has been in law enforcement for over 20 years and also retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of chief petty officer.

Mark’s attributes and the experience he possesses demonstrate his ability to manage a department and facilitate a very large budget. Mark is a leader for the men and women of law enforcement and will serve the citizens of Eddy County.

I am asking for your support in voting for Mark Cage as your next Eddy County sheriff.

Sincerely,
Michael “Mikey” Chavarria
