The Artesia Police Department is continuing to investigate two unattended deaths in the 800 block of West Hermosa Drive.

Officers arrived on the scene Monday morning in reference to the deaths of a married couple who resided in the home. According to APD Cmdr. Lindell Smith, the deaths are believed to have occurred at approximately the same time.

Due to the fact the deaths were not attended by a medical professional, they were investigated as homicides in accordance with protocol.

Smith says the bodies are scheduled for autopsy today in order to determine the nature of the deaths.

“We will collect those results and compare them to the evidence collected to have a final determination as to what happened at that scene,” said Smith.

Officials at Hermosa Elementary School were notified Monday of the incident by the APD. The school was not placed on lock down, as the APD determined there was no reason to believe the public was in any danger in relation to the incident.
