It was standing room only Friday afternoon at the Artesia Public Library, as community members gathered to honor two women by dedicating a set of stained glass doors in their memory.
Estelle Yates and Sandi Lanning worked together to make the dream of a new public library become a reality, and Lanning formed the Friends of the Library group to keep great things happening for the library after it was built.
The Friends of the Library began planning for the stained glass doors in late 2015.
Thanks to the generosity of the Maddox Foundation of Hobbs, the Friends were able to hire artist Spin Dunbar of Tesuque to create the design for the doors.
Spin used such diverse local sources of inspiration as the oil and gas industry, agriculture, and the Pecos River in his final design, and Artesians are invited to visit the library to view the glass panels and see for themselves what they can find in the design that represents Artesia to them.
The finished product was a credit to the Friends of the Library, the Maddox Foundation, Dunbar Stained Glass, the Artesia Public Library staff, and Artesia Glass & Mirror.
