TO THE EDITOR:

Guess what. “There’s a new kid on the block.” It lives on the north side of our town on Highway 285. It’s a brand new store named Tractor Supply.

How could Artesia have been so fortunate as to have a national chain company like Tractor Supply bless Artesia with one of their stores?

In the past, dog owners, cattlemen, ranchers, horse owners, etc. (and so on) had to drive clear up to the north side of Roswell to one of their stores to find and buy items that none of our stores here in Artesia carried.

I live close by, so on my way home a few days ago I paid this new store a visit. It has a huge building with plenty of parking. And it’s located right on the highway. And right in front of the building, our local dog owners will be delighted to see the chain link dog cages that we all had to drive down to Carlsbad to find before.

Inside, I quickly began to feel like a “kid in a candy shop” when a clerk showed me around. All of the cattle panels, the gate panels, the chicken wire for the kennel flooring, the white electric fence tape that I have a brochure on but never could find anywhere locally – there they were at this new store. At last I can build my dream of a dog kennel with six runs. And without going broke – “Oh happy me.”

On my way home, I thought to myself, “Ya’know, editor, Artesia’s becoming a better place to live every day.”
