Alicia Veronica ‘Leech’ Gomez

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Alicia Veronica “Leech” Gomez of Artesia.

Gomez, 52, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at her home.

Fr. Martin Cornejo, OFM, will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Isaiah Carrera, Lawrence Gomez, Jonath Gomez, Jacob Mendoza, Dominic Gomez, Jason Mendoza, Jeremiah Mendoza, Saige Soto, Abram Mendoza, Ashton Gomez, Andre Gomez and Jorgie Avitia. Honorary pallbearers are her nieces, Marissa Moreno, Naira Mendoza, Sadie Soto, Cierra Gomez, Rachel Prado, Emme Gomez, and all remaining great-nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Grace.

Alicia was born Dec. 18, 1963, in Artesia to Manuel and Susie (Rodriguez) Gomez. She was a lifelong Artesia resident.

“Leech” was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, PSR, and the Senior Center, and was involved in the Artesia Literacy Council. She enjoyed arts and crafts, along with coloring, collecting knick-knacks, stuffed animals, photos, and paintings.

Everything she wore with whatever she was doing always had to match. Kickball and daily walking were favorite outdoor activities. Another of her favorite pastimes was watching movies and eating popcorn. Her main love was her family and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her parents, Manuel and Susie Gomez, of Artesia; sisters Sylvia Carrera and husband Lalo of Roswell, Mary Mendoza and husband Luis, Cory Mendoza and husband Rick, and Connie Avitia and husband Jorge, all of Artesia, and Rosie Soto of Dallas, Texas; brothers Armando Gomez of Artesia, Basilio Gomez of Boise, Idaho, and Manny Gomez and wife Yvonne of Hobbs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
