A Toyota pickup sits incapacitated near mile marker 76 on North U.S. 285 late this morning following a single-vehicle rollover. The pickup rolled as it left the southbound roadway, struck a power pole belonging to Xcel Energy, and came to rest in a field. According to Sgt. Matt Hutchinson with the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended by ECSO deputies. At press time, he was being evaluated at Artesia General Hospital with unknown injuries. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation. The damage to the power pole led to electrical outages at Park Junior High and various other homes and businesses in the area.
