Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the CARC dining hall, 902 Cherry Lane, Carlsbad, for Jeff Goodlander of Carlsbad.
Goodlander, 58, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2016, in El Paso, Texas.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Jeff was born March 1, 1958, in Hammond, Ind., the youngest of three sons born to Gerald and Lucille (Campbell) Goodlander.
He sustained a birth injury and suffered from cerebral palsy. He lived at home for the first 35 years of his life, attending the Loving Care Nursery and the Lake County Association for the Handicapped, both in Indiana. At the age of 35, Jeff moved to Dunn-Garvin, a residential facility in Michigan City, Ind. Ten years later, he moved to a group home at the CARC facility in Carlsbad, where he resided for 10 additional years.
Jeff made many good friends among his housemates and staff wherever he resided. He was a very sweet, outgoing people-person who also enjoyed music, television, trains, and watching baseball games. Jeff attended the Cavern Baptist Church in Carlsbad when he was able and enjoyed the hymns very much – but according to his pastor, the sermons not so much.
Survivors include his mother, Lucille; brother Jim (Milda); “adopted sister” Janelle Carow; favorite nurse and friend Anita Rainwater; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in both Indiana and New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald; and brother Jerry Jr.
The family wishes to thank CARC for the awesome support they provided Jeff and his family, and asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to CARC, P.O. Box 1808, Carlsbad, N.M., 88221-1808.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
