The Lady Bulldog and Bulldog tennis teams took second and third respectively last weekend at the Bulldog Invitational. Off to a late start Friday due to inclement weather, the athletes woke to sunny skies and warm temperatures Saturday, competing well against a field that included Onate, Silver, Lovington and Mesilla Valley Christian. For the Lady ‘Dogs, top performers included Brooke Normal, who went 4-0 on the weekend, and Kabryn Conner, Melissa Richards and Hailey Ashe, all 3-1. Jake Trejo was 3-0 for the Bulldogs, Peyton Prothro 2-1, and Josiah Kraft, Jamey Kennemur and Juan Montanez all finished 2-2. Above, Baylee McKinney returns a serve during girls’ singles play. Below, Jake Trejo leaps to handle a hard shot in boys’ doubles competition. The Artesia teams will host Portales in a 3 p.m. dual today at the Mack Chase Athletic Complex.
