The Artesia High School rodeo team will be busing tables at Henry’s BBQ from 4:30 p.m. until closing Friday, Jan. 29, Friday, Feb. 5, and Friday, Feb. 19.

The AHS rodeo team, who are also the defending state champions, are trying to raise money to aid in travel expenses for the spring rodeo season. This spring, the team will travel to Farmington in March, Deming and Belen in April, and Gallup and Grants in May. State finals are also set in Gallup during Memorial Day weekend.

Travel this spring will be more extensive than it has been in the past few years, which will mean the expenses are greater.

The AHS rodeo team is doing well overall after the fall season. Blaise Milligan is sitting fourth in the bull riding, Maddy Deerman is winning the breakaway roping and has points in the team roping, and Bryce McCormick is sixth in the steer wrestling and has points in the team roping.

Kaitlyn Harwell is winning the pole bending, is second in cutting, and is in the top 10 in barrel racing and goat tying, with points in team roping, as well. Jon Solt also has points in the team roping.

Other members who participated in the fall are Morgan Brown, Hannah Hendrix, Payson Hendrix, Beau Kelley and Noah Mauldin. Tyrell Sims was unable to compete in the fall due to an injury but will be competing this spring.

I am very proud to say that after the second nine weeks of school, this team has a combined cumulative GPA of 3.4!

Please come out, get to know these kids, and help them raise the much-needed money to assist in their travel expenses this spring.
