Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God for Velma Romero Hernandez of Artesia.
Hernandez, 58, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Pastor Bobby Argo will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Velma was born Jan. 15, 1957, in Marfa, Texas, the daughter of Elias S. and Sita (Romero) Herrera. She was a longtime Artesia resident.
On April 24, 1985, she married Arturo B. Hernandez in Artesia.
She was a restaurant cook and loved being with her grandchildren and listening to music.
Survivors include her husband, Arturo Hernandez, of Artesia; son Shun C. Hernandez of Artesia; daughter Chantel Williams of Artesia; brothers Fred Herrera of El Paso, Texas, Elisardo Herrera of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Eli Herrera and James Herrera, both of Artesia; sisters Delma Herrera of Albuquerque, JoAnne Duran and Diane Lopez, both of Artesia, and Sandra Hollingsworth of Tatum; and grandchildren Sierra Hernandez, Nevaeh Hernandez, Aricela Hernandez, Xavian Hernandez, Abrianna Hernandez, Juliann Hernandez and Syriana Williams.
