Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hagerman for Pearl Louise Worley Mason.
Mason, 91, passed away peacefully the morning of Jan. 4, 2016, at her home in San Benito, Texas.
Interment followed the services at the Hagerman Cemetery.
Pearl was born July 17, 1924, in Blum, Texas, the ninth of 12 children of David S. and Pearl E. Worley. She grew up on a farm in central Texas, where she was an aspiring singer. She moved with her family to Hagerman in her teens, where she met and fell in love with the mayor’s son, Cassius Garner Mason II.
The two were married April 1, 1943, and Pearl happily gave up her dream of singing professionally to be with her military husband during World War II, living in various cities and later settling in Hagerman to raise their family.
Pearl and Garner resided in Hagerman until the mid-1980s, when her love of Texas, sunshine and beaches inspired them to move to the San Benito area of South Texas. They maintained a home in Hagerman throughout their lives; however, San Benito was their permanent residence, and Pearl lived there until her passing.
She was a loving, doting wife, mother and grandmother. She stayed active and loved music,
dancing, swimming, bingo and the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include her children, Kathleen Mason Rabalais of San Benito, Cass Mason of Hagerman, Melissa Mason of San Benito, and Jenny Williams and husband Monte of Corrales; eight grandchildren, Deedra Chandler, Jennifer Bratcher, Kendra Sorum, Amber Curtis, Amanda Worthington, Kami Mason, Thad Mason, Alexis Mason and Beau Williams; 10 wonderful great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garner Mason; and sons baby Cassius G. and Steve Eugene Mason.
Our sweet Mother will be dearly missed and her beautiful memory carried in the hearts of her family forever.
