The investigation is ongoing into the death of a Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) employee, who was found deceased Sunday at the facility.

Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) Chief Deputy Mark Cage reported Monday afternoon that at approximately 8:43 p.m. Sunday, the Regional Emergency Dispatch Authority received a report of an unconscious individual at the WIPP.

Responding WIPP medical and security personnel determined the individual was male and was deceased. Further investigation revealed he had been located on the facility grounds and was a WIPP employee.

As of today, the cause of death is unknown. The incident is still under investigation by the ECSO Detective Division.
