Members of the L/Cpl. Andres Garcia Detachment No. 678 and volunteers on hand to distribute toys, above, and members of local Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops, below, who helped load and unload boxes pose for photos Dec. 13 at the Elks Lodge prior to the annual Toys for Tots distribution. The Marine Corps detachment issued thanks to First American Bank, Artesia Lanes, Land O’ Lakes – Purina Feed, Wal-Mart, the Artesia Chamber of Commerce, Central Valley Electric, Kmart, Halliburton, Artesia Daily Press, Artesia Elks Lodge No. 1717, and SKP Ranch – Lakewood for their donations and/or allowing boxes to be placed at their businesses. The detachment also thanks Subway of Artesia and Gregg’s Foods for providing food for the workers on distribution day; the Elks Lodge for the use of its building and help with the distribution; and Boy Scout Troops 219 and 228 and Cub Scout Troop P270 for helping with the loading. A total of 123 families in Artesia with 313 children and 85 families in Carlsbad with 219 children were given a merry Christmas through this year’s Toys for Tots effort.
