The Artesia High School bowling team kicked off the 2015-16 New Mexico High School Bowling Association season with victories in both divisions of the Las Cruces Invitational.

The Bulldog Bowlers not only won both divisions but also captured the runner-up trophies in each division.

This year’s Artesia High bowling team, again led by Coach Ken Clayton, returns 23 bowlers among a total team of 35, including seniors Jason Allred, JR Altamirano, Graciela Chambers, Ricardo Hansen, Vanessa Harvey, Nathan Letourneau and Daniel Velo, juniors Maria Rivera, Ricardo Aguirre, Andy Powers, Rubi Devora, Jamey Palomares, Brittany Schneider and Trevor Suggs, sophomores Andres Baeza, Sammy Bejarano, Simon Chavez, Tyler Coons, Zachary Isaacs, Alexis Gomez, Darian Mahan, Kenley Ortega, Monique Miranda, Alyssa Steed, Katie Safka, Ana Wageley and Sheree Yandell, freshmen Hunter Richardson, Houston Branch, Tim Boone, Elijah Lopez, Eli Hollers and Andres Lopez, and eighth-graders Will Davis and Ethan Velo. Assistant coaches are Tim and Holly Harvey.

Leading the Artesia Division I championship team in Las Cruces was Aguirre with games of 225 and 191, Altamirano with a 217, Daniel Velo with a 178, Harvey, 172, and Davis, 155. The AHS Division I runner-up team was led by Letourneau, 191, Palomares, 187-181, Chambers, 170, Hansen, 167, and Ethan Velo, 162.

The Artesia Division II first- and second-place efforts were led by Powers, 160-131, Richardson, 147-119, Lopez, 125, Chaves, 131, Yandell, 152, Steed, 161, Bejarano, 136, and Isaacs, 139.
