Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at First Baptist Church for David Thornton Simons of Roswell.

Simons, 92, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell.

Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery.

David was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Magdalena, the son of John T. Simons and Ella Elizabeth (Sprague) Simons. He was a longtime area resident.

On April 2, 1942, he married Mary Ruth Hearn in Artesia. She preceded him in death in August 2001.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was retired as the executive vice president at First National Bank and a member of First Baptist Church. He was also a member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and Tabernacle Baptist Church in Roswell.

David was a member of many civic organizations and graduated from the Southwest School of Banking at SMU.

Survivors include son Mike Simons and wife Susan of Artesia; daughter Mary Dawn Terpening and husband Alan of Roswell; brother John Simons of Roswell; five grandchildren, Michelle Pavlik, Craig Simons, Robert Terpening, Rita Harden and David Terpening; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Simons.
