Young wrestlers with the Artesia youth league headed by coach Pastor Eric Zottneck competed Nov. 29 at the Takedown Tournament in Los Lunas. Chris Martin took first in the 15-and-under 167- and 185-pound divisions, Zane Skinner in the 15-and-under 80-pound division, and Elijah Mann in the 15-and-under 75-pound division. James Mann was second in 15-U 75 pounds and fourth in 12-U 70 pounds; Colbin Ellis finished fourth in 10-U 75 pounds; Skinner was third in 12-U 85 pounds; Elijah Mann third in 12-U 70 pounds; Damion Mascarenas was third and fourth in 12-U 80 pounds and 15-U 85 pounds; and Mattie Smith became the first female wrestler ever from Artesia to win a match and beat a boy. Not pictured is Elijah Tenorio, third in 10-U 50 pounds and fourth in 8-U 49 pounds. The team wishes to thank the community for its support.
