The 2015 Class 5A State Champion Bulldog football team picked up 11 spots on the 5A All-State first team and two more on the second team Friday, with three of those athletes also set to represent the City of Champions in the 2016 5A-6A North/South All-Star Game.

Senior quarterback Justin Houghtaling, junior slot back Ethan Duff, senior wide receiver Daniel Leon, and punter Tristan Bowden received first-team All-State offense honors, as did senior linebackers Jacob Enriquez and Grady Frost, junior lineman Codey Scott, junior lineman Jharyss Granger, senior defensive backs Carlos Carrasco and Caleb Brewer, and kicker Daniel Hernandez on the defensive end.

Named to the All-State second-team offense were senior slot Chaz Matthews and senior WR Hernandez.

Carrasco, Enriquez and Houghtaling will also compete for the South in the annual all-star game, set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Nusenda Community Stadium in Albuquerque.

Runner-up Centennial placed six on the All-State first team offense in running back Joaquin Gutierrez, linemen George Nino, Cameron Burkely, Vincent Rubino and Bo Glines, and WR Junior Pena. Four Hawks were placed on the All-State first-team defense: linebacker Jake Boykin, lineman Edgar Hernandez, defensive back Marc Sotelo, and return specialist Pena.

Rounding out the first-team offense were Los Lunas RB O’Maury Samuels, Miyamura RB A.J. Starkovich, and Piedra Vista lineman Dylan Weaver. Defensively, Goddard linebacker Ethan Featherstone, St. Pius lineman Alex Saiz, Roswell High DB Dominic Anaya, and PV DB Elijah Gamboa also made the first team.

Goddard had four more athletes on the second team – RB Lucas Gutierrez, offensive lineman Featherstone, D lineman Antonio Salvarrey, and DB Gutierrez – and Roswell one: D lineman Ricardo Silva.
