Ruth Eleanor Tanner

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at the Pinon Cemetery in Pinon for Ruth Eleanor (Lewis) Tanner of Pinon.

Tanner, 84, joined her heavenly family on Nov. 3, 2015, at her home.

Gary Gardner will officiate at the services. Coffee, tea and covered-dish refreshments will follow at the Pinon Clubhouse.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Ruth was the first child born to Eldo Wafer and Eunice Opal (Walker) Lewis on Jan. 17, 1931. She grew up between the Crow Flat and Weed areas. The family spent the summers and most holidays at the family ranch on Crow Flat and spent the school years near the George Lewis Homestead south of Weed.

Ruth graduated from Weed High School in the spring of 1949, and on Aug. 18, 1949, she married TA Tanner. They spent their lifetime operating first a sheep ranch, then a cattle ranch near Wilkerson Well southeast of Pinon. In 2005, the couple moved to Pinon to spend their remaining years.

Ruth was a quiet, kind and loving person. She truly loved her ranch and her animals.

Survivors include daughter Linda Lee Taylor and husband Bill of Pinon; granddaughter Eleanor Pauline “Ellie” Taylor of Pinon; brother James Harvey Lewis of Las Cruces; one nephew; and numerous nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, TA; her parents, Eldo and Opal; sisters Milburn Belle “Millie” Dodge and Lucy Jane Schafer; and niece Barbara Dodge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Opal Lewis Memorial Fund, c/o Estelle Bond, PO Box 427, High Rolls, N.M., 88325; or Alamogordo Homecare and Hospice, 1859 Indian Wells Rd., Alamogordo, N.M., 88310.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
