Above, Becky Torrez, left, child development and nutrition teacher at Artesia High School, helps
Ashley Saiz sew a stuffed football Tuesday morning during a Clothing I class. This is the
first year in many AHS has offered a sewing class to students. “Some of these kids have
really taken off with their sewing,” said Torrez. “I’m really proud of them.” At right, Lacey Smith hand stitches a section of a drawstring bag she’s creating. Torrez says she is impressed with how enthusiastically the students have been taking to the class.
