Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Calvary Baptist Church for Darrell Thompson of Artesia.

Thompson, 73, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Rev. Rick Smith will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Caleb, Brad, Joshua, Danny, David and Stephen.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m.

today at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Thompson was born May 6, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of Marvin Thompson and Dorothy (Graves) Thompson.

He was a longtime Artesia resident.

On Nov. 5, 1969, he married Elaine Arnold in New Mexico.

He was a mechanic at Dean’s Electric for many years, retiring in 2005. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist and a former member of Faith Baptist Church. Thompson liked to rock hunt and go camping and coon hunting. He also enjoyed gardening and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include daughters Donna Mae Tate of Oklahoma, Lisa Deel and husband Danny of Lubbock, Texas, and Kathy Miller of Ruidoso; grandchildren Caleb, Brad, Brittany, Kristin, Alisha, Joshua and Clinton; six great-grandchildren; sister Kay White of Avery, Texas; and brothers Tommy Thompson and Alfred Thompson, both of Artesia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Thompson, on May 13, 2013; his parents; son Tommy Holder; and brothers Ronnie and Harold Thompson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
