Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Refugio Alvarado of Artesia.

Alvarado, 37, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Artesia General Hospital.

Deacon Richard Rodriguez will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Javier Florez, Brook Navarette, Travis “Bubba”

Wilkinson, Omar Pando, Rigo Alvarado and Joel Mijares.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Grace.

Alvarado was born Dec. 25, 1977, in Denver, Colo., the son of Jose Alvarado and Maria (Torres) Alvarado. He was a longtime area resident.

On May 2, 1998, he married Christina Juarez in Carlsbad.

He was an operator at Oxy Gas Plant and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his stepchildren and grandchildren, collecting coins and knives, and drawing, and loved Indian artifacts. He also enjoyed Stephen King movies and books, and was a Denver Broncos fan.

Survivors include his wife, Christina Juarez, of Artesia; parents Jose and Maria Alvarado of Artesia; stepchildren Javier Florez, Aida Aguilera, Rebecca Florez and Marissa Florez, all of Artesia, and Micaella Martinez of Tatum; brothers Jesus Torres of Carlsbad, Juan Alvarado of Mexico and Rigo Alvarado of Artesia; sister Maria Wilkinson of Artesia; 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
