Salvador De La O Granado

Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday August 3, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Salvador De La O Granado, aka “Chava” of Artesia.

Granado, 86, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 in Artesia.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Grace.

Salvador was born on April 29, 1929 to Cipriano and Consuelo Granado in Presidio, Texas. In 1955, he attended a girls basketball game in Loving and spotted the woman he would marry one year later, Arselia Gomez. Arselia does not recall scoring any points that day but Salvador obviously did.

June 20, 2015 marked their 60th year of marriage.

He was a painter by trade and was well respected among his peers and was in frequent demand for his services around town. He loved to hunt and fish and passed that love of the outdoors on to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Salvador also enjoyed sports and coached pee wee baseball, little league and Babe Ruth. He was an avid sports fan and cheered his kids, grandkids, Bulldogs and the Dallas Cowboys.

Many Sundays were spent cheering or hissing at his beloved cowboys. He loved horses and owned many throughout his lifetime.

Survivors include wife, Arselia Granado of Artesia; sons, Mike Granado and wife Cori of Artesia and Donny Granado of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kristen Collins, Michael Granado, Rachel Cox and Adan Granado; great-grandchildren, Kambry Collins, Chase Collins, Carder Cox and Colten Cox; sisters, Belen Marquez and Maggie Montoya both of Espanola; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Granado was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Granado of Jal, Saturnino Acosta of Artesia, Jose Granado of Artesia, and sisters, Maria Cortez and Pascuala Granado, both of Artesia.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at http://www.artesiafunerals.com.
