Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Las Cruces for Armando C. Orozco of Las Cruces.
Orozco, 77, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, with his family by his side in Las Cruces.
Interment will follow the services at Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Rodriguez, Estevan Orozco, David Hernandez, Ian Jackson, Buck Rodriguez and Marc Mc- Clure. Honorary pallbearer will be Noah Jackson. Orozco was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Redford, Texas to Antonio and Petra Orozco.
He graduated from Artesia High School in 1957. On April 5, 1975 he married Bertha Bustamante in El Paso, Texas.
Mando was a self-employed carpenter. If you asked, he would build it or fix it. He built a few of the houses in which he lived. He served in the Army National Guard from which he was honorably discharged.
After serving his country he served his customers when he owned a restaurant and bakery in Van Horn, Texas for a while.
He loved to make pit barbeques.
When it was chile season, you could find him out in the fields picking his own chile and then roasting it out on his grill. He loved family gatherings and making hamburgers for everyone. Mando adored his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and teaching them things.
Survivors include his wife Bertha; daughter Celina Jackson and husband Ian of Las Cruces; three sisters Consuelo Rodriguez, of Salinas Calif., Francis Hernandez and husband Mayo of Artesia and Angelita Aguilar and husband Frank, of Odessa, Texas; one brother, Jose Orozco; two grandchildren, Noah and Savannah Jackson, of Las Cruces; and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Orozco was preceded in death by his babies, Belinda and Armando Jr. Orozco; his parents, Antonio and Petra Orozco; and a brother, Gilberto Orozco.
Arrangements are under the direction of Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, N.M. 88001.
