The New Mexico State Police, Eddy County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies continue this morning to investigate the scene of a wreck on Dayton Road just off of South U.S. 285, reportedly the culmination of a high-speed pursuit. According to REDA dispatch reports, the ECSO was called to assist another agency in the area at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. A reckless driving call came in at 5:23 p.m. and an accident call at 6:15 p.m. Witnesses on the highway at the time reported being passed by the Dodge pickup truck pictured at right, which appeared to be on fire. Multiple shots were also reported, although it remains unclear from whence the gunfire originated. Calls to the NMSP were unreturned as of press time today, and no information has been released.
