New Mexico State Police officers respond this morning to the scene of an accident at U.S. 285 and Four Dinkus Road. The wreck occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. when the driver of a United Drilling semi truck collided with a small, white Chevrolet Lumina driven by an unidentified 28-year-old male on his way to work at Halliburton. “The Chevy Lumina vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 285 when the semi driver, headed east at Four Dinkus, admittedly felt he could beat the oncoming vehicle across the highway,” said N.M. Mode of Transportation Police Officer J. Gonzales. The rate of speed on that portion of U.S. 285 is 70 mph. The semi crossed into the path of the Lumina, which unavoidably skidded into the semi’s trailer. The Lumina was mangled and its driver pinned under the trailer, then dragged approximately 10 feet. The driver of the Lumina sustained severe injuries, including leg and head injuries, and was airlifted by TriState CareFlight to Lubbock, Texas. No names were released, and no further information on the driver’s condition was available at press time. Grace Miller – Daily Press
